Authorities have identified a body washed ashore in Washington D.C. as a teenager who vanished months ago.
According to WDCA, 17-year-old Nyair Raymond was last seen on January 15, fleeing from a stolen car near the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge. A police chase ensued after authorities attempted to pull the vehicle over for a traffic violation. The driver, 18-year-old Jalen Anthony Young, and Raymond, the passenger, fled the scene on foot.
Police later caught up to Young, but were never able to locate Raymond.
A week following the incident, Raymond's jacket was found submerged in the Anacostia River. Earlier this month, authorities found remains at the same location that Raymond's jacket was discovered.
Raymond's mother believes there might be foul play in her son's death.
“I want to know what they did and what they didn’t do,” the mother said. “Something happened under that bridge.”
Police haven't released a cause or manner of death. It remains unclear how Raymond ended up in the river.
“My son has been wronged somewhere,” Raymond's mother added. “This is a murder — I feel it in my heart.”
