"She's back," a caption on a video posted by movie mogul Tyler Perry reads. Perry announced Tuesday (June 8) that the infamous, pistol-toting character Madea would be coming out of retirement.

“We need to laugh man,” Perry said in the video. "Too much is going on in the country, we need to laugh," he added.

In the video, Perry and Madea go back and forth announcing her comeback, with Madea making several outbursts throughout.“I was done,” Perry said. “But I wasn’t,” Madea interjected.

“This is Tyler Perry saying –– this is Madea saying that I’m coming back and I’m on Netflix,” Perry said revealed.

Perry retired Madea in 2019 after playing the character for decades in stage plays and films. In 2018, he announced “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral” would be the last project featuring the matriarch. In total, Madea makes appearances in seven of Perry's stage plays, and at least 10 of the mogul's films.

The newest project is entitled “A Madea Homecoming,” and is set to be released in 2022, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Perry will write and direct the latest edition to the Madea film franchise, which is set to be shot at the sprawling Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.
