Former NFL Player Kellen Winslow II Sentenced To 14 Years For Rape

San Diego County Superior Court Judge Blaine Bowman sentenced former Cleveland Browns Tight End Kellen Winslow II to 14 years in prison on Wednesday. Winslow II was convicted of various sex crimes including rape and sexual assault. Incidents include exposing himself to an elderly woman at a gym and raping a woman in San Diego.

“The vulnerability of the victims was no accident,” Judge Blaine Bowman stated.

“It was the type of victim that you sought out yourself because you felt that perhaps they wouldn’t report the crime [or] wouldn’t be deemed credible by the jurors.”

Four women delivered statements regarding the crimes Winslow was convicted of. Most notably, a woman described how difficult her day-to-day life has become since Winslow raped her in San Diego. She said that she lives in a state of constant fear that drives her to check under beds and in closets when staying at her brother's home.

“I don’t ever feel safe inside or outside,” she stated.

“You brought so much damage to my life.”

Also, Winslow was accused of performing a lewd act at a gym in the presence of a 77-year-old woman. The woman who witnessed the act also delivered a statement in court.

“This is somebody who has been allowed to utilize his financial privilege and celebrity to evade jail while awaiting trial, which is when he victimized me,” the witness stated.

“It shows this is a defendant who does not learn from his mistakes, who shows no respect to our laws.”

The former first-round pick will serve the remainder of his sentence at a California state prison. He must also register as a sex offender. At the advice of his attorney, Winslow II did not deliver a statement in court on Wednesday.
